Church Health Assessment Survey

"The CHAT church survey really stands out. I like how CHAT identifies your church's strengths, involves every member, is easy to take online, and offers highly-readable results. What a great tool to assess where you are, fill people with hope, and together discern God's will for your future."

"Steve Macchia is at it again. His burning passion to see churches achieve maximum health has taken the next step. CHAT (Church Health Assessment Tool) provides churches with an easy-to-use look at themselves that could move many congregations toward the health that Steve (and, more importantly, the Spirit) envisions."

"Without a doubt, one of the greatest needs of a large number of churches in America is to become more healthy. Leadership Transformations' new CHAT survey should be a great help to all who use it. It is a joy to recommend it to you!"

Independent Church Consultant

Independent Church Consultant — What Type Are You Looking For?

In searching for an independent church consultant, it's important to recognize the difference between "strategy" and "discernment." The vast majority of consultants place a heavy emphasis on strategic planning and initiatives. They'll look at SWOT analysis, church structure, programs offered, demographics, etc. for ways to strategically maximize the impact of the church.

In contrast, very few independent church consultants will place an equally high emphasis on the importance of spiritual discernment as a key component of leadership. The discernment piece adds a layer of depth to the strategic process by inviting the leadership team to discern together what God is doing inside and outside of the church walls and, most ertinently, what He is currently, personally inviting them into in the next stage of ministry together. Strategy is important, but without discernment it's a human-driven process. The addition of discernment makes it a human-empowered but Holy Spirit-guided process

Independent Church Consultant — How Do We Know If We Need One?

An independent church consultant can be extremely helpful in several scenarios. Here are a couple examples:

  • Specialized Expertise: Sometimes a consultant is needed to facilitate a process that is outside the collective expertise of the church leadership (i.e. new building design, community demographics study, spiritual discernment, technology, financial planning, etc.)
  • Objective Facilitation: Sometimes it's helpful to have an outside third party facilitate a discovery or decision making process. This is particularly helpful when the leadership team is somewhat divided over an issue.

There are also scenarios, however, where you can utilize existing web-driven resources in place of a consultant. For example, if you want to gather feedback from your congregation and get a snapshot of the health of your church. There are resources on the web, including our Church Health Assessment Tool, that will allow you to gather objective data about your strengths and weaknesses and give you the tools to conduct your own SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) without hiring a consultant to come in and facilitate the process.
